How to price a tumbler in four steps

  1. 1

Cost out the blank and every material

Divide what you paid by how many tumblers the pack makes. Do this for vinyl, tape, epoxy, glitter, paper, ink and packaging, not just the blank.

  2. 2

    Add your time

Count hands-on minutes only and pay yourself a real hourly rate. Twenty minutes at $20 an hour is $6.67 per tumbler.

  3. 3

    Add selling fees

Etsy takes close to 10% of the sale. Leave it out and your profit is lower than you think.

  4. 4

Price for the margin you want

Divide your true cost by what's left after your margin and fees. At a 50% margin and 9.5% fees, a $10 cost needs about a $25 price.

Tumbler pricing questions

How much should I charge for a custom tumbler?

Start from your true cost per tumbler: the blank, every material, packaging, your time and your selling fees. Most handmade sellers aim for a 40 to 60% profit margin after fees. For a typical vinyl tumbler that lands around $25 to $35, and epoxy tumblers usually need $40 or more because of the extra materials and time.

Should I count cure time in my labor?

No. Count the minutes you're actually working: prep, weeding, applying, sanding, coating and packing. Cure time ties up space, not you, so leave it out of labor. If you're limited on turners or space, raise your price instead.

What margin should I use for wholesale?

Wholesale buyers need room to resell, so wholesale prices are usually lower and only make sense in volume. Keep at least a 30% margin on wholesale orders, and don't add platform fees if the buyer pays you directly.

Is this calculator free?

Yes. No signup and nothing is saved. If you want your prices to stay right when supply costs change, and your stock to count itself as you make tumblers, that's what Craft Stock Studio does.
